Protecting Your Pet From Accidents At Home

August 20th, 2015 cedric luis Legal 0 comments

Many younger pets, such as puppies, tend to be very energetic. They love to play and explore their environment; however, it is important for owners to remember that the home may pose certain dangers for your puppy, such as slipping on floors while playing, or being exposed to poisonous plants or dangerous household chemicals. Even seemingly innocent things, such as ribbon and yarn, may cause them to choke if swallowed.

Older pets as well may need help getting around the home safely, so they are at risk for slipping accidents, which can be serious if they have lost some bone density or suffer from arthritis or osteoporosis. Therefore, pet owners need to consider pet safety in the home.

Treating Slippery Floors

Slippery floors may cause pet injuries especially if your pet spends most of its time indoors on surfaces that don’t provide much traction for their paws. Treating slippery floors is important for both pets and people, especially since puppies and kittens don’t understand that they are at risk of having a slipping or sliding injury. Pet owners can provide protection against these slips by cleaning the floors regularly with enzyme based products that are safe for both pets and people. The best anti slip floor treatments provide benefits for each type of surface and flooring, so it’s a good idea to consult a professional with experience with this.

Pet Health and Diet

There are also several nutrition tips that you should follow to ensure that your pet is properly take care of. You should always make sure your pet has plenty of clean water and good quality food and snacks. Look for pet foods with high-meat and low-grain content, and try to choose snacks that are safe and made without bad chemical preservatives. Avoiding feeding them table scraps since this can lead to obesity and turn them off from regular pet foods. Try to stick to a consistent diet and regular feeding schedule, and if your pet is a fussy eater, avoid hovering when they eat, as this may cause them to stop eating properly.

Regular Vet Visits and Bone Density Scans

Visiting your vet regularly can help to keep your pet protected and healthy by detecting any health problems before they get worse. Your vet can also discuss with you safer feeding practices, arrange their shots and confront any behavioural problems with your pet. Creating a safe environment for your pet in the home is good, but you must also monitor their health.

Bone Density Scans

The best way to handle diseases is by detecting them early. It’s very important to identify diseases such as arthritis and osteoporosis and to identify any mobility issues your pet may have since these could lead to injuries or even be life-threatening. A pet owner may not notice gradual health or dietary changes in their pet that may indicate illness, which is why regular visits to the vet are important for diagnosing illnesses such as kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and cancer.

A pet-friendly home starts with ensuring that you have anti slip flooring to prevent harm to your pet. Keep them healthy by creating a safe environment at home, taking them to regular check-ups with your vet and doing proper screenings such as bone density scans to detect if your pet is at a higher risk for broken bones.
